Ongoing Projects

We have ongoing projects focused on applied data analysis for clinical decision-making, with several patient- and provider-facing prototype applications. Beyond the specific projects below, our team is growing a research enterprise to create a developmental framework based on Agile principles to create applications that provide meaningful guidance. Our research is funded with support from grants from the NIH, and we are actively working with collaborators in industry and academia to learn more about the process of integrating analytics with clinical decisions, and in the process develop useful applications.

Use of a Personalized Medicine App in Management of Chronic Recurrent Conditions

Can an smartphone app improve your healthcare?

This study seeks to find the answer. We seek men and women over 18 years of age, who use an iPhone or Android smartphone, and have any recurrent health condition, including the following:

  • Migraine headaches

  • Irritable/inflammatory bowel disease

  • Chronic low back pain

  • Palpitations

  • Recurrent rashes

  • Recurrent anxiety/depression

This project will examine the potential of the iMTracker to identify lifestyle factors that can be modified to reduce recurrence of chronic recurrent health conditions. We are working on integrating Fitbit data, analyzed presently using the Udatalyze framework, to provided added information that could be valuable in reducing chronic recurrent conditions. We recently completed a pilot study of the application, and are planning a clinical trial in the coming months.
